Graduate profile

General Nurse

General Nurse graduates acquire the professional competencies of nurses defined by the current legislation of the Czech Republic. Graduates are educated and prepared to be adaptable to emerging conditions and practice requirements in the essential functions that the nursing profession encompasses.

  • Autonomous functions of nurses - meeting needs arising from illness, promoting health and preventing disease, and providing information and health education.
  • Cooperative function of nurses - respects the roles of individual professionals in coordinating and performing professional tasks in a multidisciplinary and multiprofessional team, maintains and strengthens the mutual partnership relationship and participates in all joint actions in the interest of the patient/client's health, performs examinations and treatment measures indicated by the physician, knows and respects the boundaries of their roles and competencies, and, if necessary, requests the cooperation of competent professionals.

  • Functions of nurses in research and development in nursing and health care in general- critically revises their daily practice and uses research results in the implementation of their activities, acquiring new knowledge by participating in or conducting research in nursing, participating in research in a multidisciplinary team, participating systematically and continuously in quality assurance programmes for overall care, pursuing professional development through postgraduate and continuing lifelong learning.

  • Functions of the nurse in planning, coordination and management - Recognizes health risks falling within the scope of nursing care and takes the necessary measures to prevent the effects of these risks, works in groups, supervises the work team and collaborates with other professionals, monitors the effectiveness and cost of their activities; assessing, supervising and training subordinate staff, mastering new information and communication technologies, and participating in health policy and management decision-making processes relating to nursing.

Nursing graduates are able to be responsible for general nursing care, which includes the care of individuals of all ages who are cared for in inpatient or outpatient health care settings or in the individual's own social environment, and to provide care for individuals with acute and chronic health disorders and somatic and psychiatric problems.
