Description of the place of practice

The professional practice course consists of two parts:

  • 3 week (holiday placement) - the student must complete this between semesters 4 and 5
  • 15 week (semester practice) - the student must do it in the 6th semester

It is recommended to do both internships in one organization both in Czech Republic and abroad. Both internships can be combined by agreement with the KES internship guarantor and the organization providing the internship in one, before and during the 6th semester. The student must discuss the combination of internships with the KES internship guarantor by the end of the 4th semester.

The student chooses the place of internship independently, or in agreement with the KES internship supervisor. The student may use the database of organisations maintained by the KES clerk. In case the student chooses an organisation that does not exist in the database, he/she enters this organisation into the database with the help of the KES clerk.

Each organization must achieve positive results in order to develop further. The main influence on the satisfactory development of an organization is, of course, the management. Whether it is management as an activity or management as a person.

So basically any organization can be recommended for the practice of a Finance and Management student. The student can find activities to practice on the practicum, which are listed in Chapter 3, in organizations of various types and sizes. Each organization has certain advantages and disadvantages for the student. Depending on the type, organizations can be divided into those operating in the goods and services market, the financial and money market, the capital market, the labour market, or they can be government organizations. As for the size of the organization, mainly in terms of the number of employees, then the depth of the division of labor, including the specialization of individual functions, is also related to this.

A student can choose a practice organization based on many aspects. Probably the aspect of "getting an internship" in the student's place of residence will prevail. However, the view of the topic of the bachelor thesis should prevail. By the end of the studies, almost every student is already determined in some way and, given this, the bachelor thesis aspect should be preferred. This can have two advantages in the student's collaboration with the organization:

  • the student can help the organization solve a particular problem
  • the organization may take a greater interest in the student
  • .

The student should avoid the situation of doing any internship just to get the required number of credits and write an undergraduate thesis without any purpose on a general topic.

In the context of choosing an organization for internship, it is good to remember the basic differences between organizations:

    • If we take into account the size of the organization, then it would be advisable to choose a smaller organization with less division of labour, because the student may have the opportunity to have a wider range of activities performed and thus, of course, to practice theoretical knowledge more widely. Of course, this carries with it a certain disadvantage of a more superficial performance of individual activities.
    • If the student chooses a larger organisation with a higher degree of division of labour, then he can go into greater depth in the individual activities. However, this may have the disadvantage that the student only practices a narrow range of theoretical knowledge.
    • When choosing an organization doing business in the financial or capital markets or in the labour market, the student may not "get his hands dirty", but he is more or less left to practise tasks in the fields of financial management, marketing, human resource management and possibly statistical analysis.
    • Although the student may "get his hands dirty" when choosing an organisation operating in the goods and services market, on the other hand, he has a somewhat wider choice for practising his theoretical knowledge.

If the student chooses a general topic for the bachelor's thesis, such as "The development of unemployment in the region....", "The development of wages in the region....", then he/she should realize that it would be advisable to deal with this topic purposefully in the relevant organization (Statistical Office, Regional Office...) or for the purpose of decision-making by the representatives of the local government.
