Characteristics of the Applied Mechanical Engineering (AS) study programme

The current accreditation of the Applied Mechanical Engineering study programme defines the following characteristics of the programme:

Programme graduate profile and learning outcomes

Graduates demonstrate, to an appropriate breadth and level of detail:

• knowledge of solid and fluid mechanics;
• knowledge of thermodynamics;
• knowledge of machine and mechanism design;
• knowledge of engineering technology;
• knowledge of materials engineering;
• knowledge of technical cybernetics, mechatronics, robotics and computing;
• knowledge of modelling, technical measurement and experimental methods.

Graduates are able, to an appropriate extent and level of detail:

• to design machines and equipment, including the selection of technology and materials
• to arrange and organise the technological preparation of production, to design the layout of machinery and jigs, the flow of materials and the sequence of workstations, and to ensure other technical conditions
• read technical drawings and propose the most efficient methods and procedures for production, assembly, finishing and surface treatment
• to verify new production processes, establish methods for quality control and technical testing, and collaborate on production quality management
• carry out technical supervision at workplaces and monitor compliance with technological procedures
• apply tools from the field of business economics and financial management, and utilise managerial decision-making methods when seeking optimal solutions to problems
• evaluate, improve and design business processes in industrial sectors (metallurgy, mechanical engineering, the automotive industry)
