Activities to practise

10. 7. 2026 09:50 Author: Ing. Jan Jirsa

This part of the brochure provides a summary of practical skills that a student should have at least a basic understanding of before practical placement, and that should be practised during the placement. Understandably, it is not possible to practise all the areas listed during the placement; however, for the placement to be meaningful as part of the study programme, the student must practise at least some of these areas. The list of activities to be practised is recommended; however, it is also possible to practise activities not listed here if they are related to the graduate's profile and are sufficiently professional (such cases will be assessed by the Practical Placement tutor after the intended placement has been reported).

Knowledge that the student should practise during the practical placement

Technical and technological area

  • Design and construction of mechanical parts of production lines and machines
  • Creation of technical drawings and 3D models
  • Design of material properties for mechanical structures or measurement of these properties and evaluation of their quality
  • Performing technical tests of mechanical parts (mechanical stress, strength, thermal expansion, etc.)
  • Technical calculations (performance, gears, etc.)

Electronic and information area

  • Design of electronic sensors and signal processing circuits (amplifiers, filters)
  • Design and wiring of electrical parts of production lines and machines
  • Programming of control systems or superior software in "classical languages"
  • Processing electrical and digital data (e.g. measurement results, statistics, image data, etc.)

Automation and Industrial Control

  • Siemens and Wago PLC programming
  • Design and use of PID controllers
  • Use of analogue and digital (intelligent) sensors and subsequent data processing
  • Use of industrial communication buses and networks, use of industrial Ethernet
  • Production control hierarchy design, use of modern technologies and digitalization, use of online elements in the production process

In addition to the above areas, it is also highly advisable to practice language skills (especially professional English).
