Graduates of the Midwifery degree programme are educated and prepared for the profession of a midwife in a manner that enables them to adapt to emerging conditions and practical requirements inherent to the profession. Specifically, they are qualified to:

  • Independently provide individualised care and support to women during periods of health (based on the WHO definition), physiological pregnancy, and physiological childbirth, as well as addressing needs arising during illness.

  • Assess the current clinical status and bio-psycho-social needs of women during health, physiological pregnancy, physiological labour, and the postnatal period, as well as needs arising during illness or various life situations, utilising acquired knowledge (from nursing, medical, and humanities sciences) and practical skills.

  • Conduct physiological births independently under their own responsibility and provide care for neonates and infants. They are proficient in family planning methods, capable of providing qualified first aid, and performing diagnostic procedures within the nursing care of pregnant women.

  • Respond to identified somatic, psychological, and social issues of the client. This care includes preventative measures, the detection of abnormal conditions in mother and child, securing medical assistance, and performing emergency interventions in its absence.

  • Provide consultancy and education not only to women but also to families and communities. This encompasses preparation for parenthood, psychosomatic preparation for childbirth and the postnatal period, and, more broadly, specific areas of gynaecology, family planning, and childcare. They can recognise signs and symptoms indicating deviations from healthy development and symptoms of disease, possessing a deep understanding of healthy individual development and its influencing factors.

  • Provide individual support and care via the nursing process method. They possess the knowledge, skills, and ethical attitudes required to perform individual nursing activities. Within the field of nursing, graduates are capable of conducting (or participating in) research activities and applying scientific research findings to their practice.

Career Prospects Graduates find employment in both the public and private sectors—within gynaecology and obstetrics departments, outpatient clinics, or primary and community care settings.
