Placement Diary

During the placement, students are required to make an entry in the Placement Diary for each day of placement activity. The Placement Diary is completed electronically via the Placement Portal practice.vspj.cz. A separate entry must be created for each day, including the placement hours worked (From-To). Students are strongly encouraged to complete their diary entries immediately after each placement day. 

The diary entries must always include three components:

1. Description of activities - A description of activities carried out during the placement day, clearly indicating what the student did and what tasks were performed.

2. Reflection - Reflection on the day, a particular event or selected situation: thoughts and observations arising from the experience, perceptions of the purpose and value of the service provided, views on how the service is delivered, understanding of the service within the broader network of support services, connection between practical experiences and the theoretical knowledge gained during study, etc.

3. Self-reflection - Self-reflection should address: how the student felt during the day, emotions experienced and their intensity, self-evaluation of performance in particular activities and situations, perceived personal and professional development, new knowledge, skills, or insights gained, etc.

The most common weakness in placement diary entries is that students focus solely on describing what they did during the day. Reflection and self-reflection are often missing. The ability to recognise and name one's emotions is the first step to managing them effectively. This is an essential skill for professionals working in helping professions. Students are therefore encouraged to ensure that every diary entry includes not only a description of activities but also meaningful reflection and self-reflection.

Diary entries are NOT PRINTED to be a part of the Placement Portfolio; they are available electronically in the Placement Portal.
