Introduction
Practical experience is an essential component of the Clinical Social Care degree programme. In preparing for the profession of a Clinical Social Worker or Social Worker, it is crucial that students complement their theoretical studies with practical experience gained through Practical Placements. Direct contact with clients and professionals in real workplace settings enables students to develop a realistic understanding of the roles and responsibilities of Social Workers and Clinical Social Workers. As students enrolled in the part-time mode of study have different time commitments, they are allowed to complete their practical placements throughout the semester.

Duration of the Practical Placement
During their studies, students are required to complete a total of five Practical Placements (Practical Placement 1 - Practical Placement 5) in accordance with the Recommended Study Plan (hereinafter referred to as RSP), preferably during the first to fifth semesters. One placement must be completed in a direct care setting, and one placement must be undertaken in a healthcare facility under the supervision of a Social Worker or Clinical Social Worker. The remaining three Practical Placements are elective and may be selected according to the student's interests. (For further details, see the section Types of Practical Placements.)
Each Practical Placement comprises 200 hours, consisting of 150 hours of practical placement and 50 hours of related activities, including the Placement Seminar, administration of the Placement Agreement, preparation of the Placement Portfolio, and completion of the Placement Diary. For students enrolled in the part-time mode of study, the placement schedule is arranged individually in agreement with the Placement Mentor. The planned schedule is outlined in the Learning Agreement, which the student must submit by e-mail to the academic staff member responsible for the administration of Practical Placements,  Mgr. Jitka Novotná (novot147@vspj.cz), no later than the first day of the placement.
Throughout the programme, students complete a total of 1,000 teaching hours of Practical Placement. This requirement is stipulated for the Clinical Social Care degree programme, preparing students for the profession of Clinical Social Worker by Decree No. 39/2005 Coll. Meal and rest breaks are not included in the required placement hours.
Independent study does not normally form part of the Practical Placement of the Clinical Social Care Programme and is not counted towards the required placement hours. It may only be approved in exceptional and duly justified circumstances (e.g. the temporary closure of a department due to an epidemic, illness of the Placement Mentor with no suitable replacement, etc.). Approval of independent study requires a positive recommendation from the Placement Mentor, on the basis of which the replacement arrangement may be approved by the Placement Coordinator (Mgr. Novotná for part-time students, PhDr. Vlasta Řezníková, Ph.D. for full-time students) or by the Placement Tutor, Mgr. Markéta Dubnová, PhD. The maximum number of approved independent study is 37.5 hours per semester.
